Can't e-file amended NY state return. says "IT-201 not e-filed" but it was. Bug ?

I'm trying to e-file my amended New York state return, but Turbotax is saying I can't e-file it because "E-filing an amended return Form IT-201-X when IT-201 has not been e-filed".

But IT-201 was e-filed (my whole return was). I've double checked the forms and IT-201 and IT-201-X both seem fully filled out.

This is similar to this post https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/after-you-file/discussion/ny-unable-to-e-file-amended-return-possible-bug/00/2637095 but in that situation the individual was a part-time resident using IT-203, but I am a full time resident using IT-201. This really does seem like a bug?

Please help!

You may have created an amended federal return?  If that is the case then you need to delete the federal amended return in order to file the NY return.

Has your federal return been accepted?

You should have an email and/or text confirming whether your federal return has been accepted.

TurboTax CD/Download software

With your return open, select the State Taxes tab near the top. This will take you to the state section and you can go through your state return again.

If this does not help It may be best to follow the instructions here to give us a call, so we can ensure this is taken care of.

Thank you for your response!! Interesting-- I have created an amended federal return (I need to amend both state and federal for the same correction), but I haven't submitted it yet. I'm confused why creating an amended federal return would be a problem-- isn't it common to need to amend both?

I submitted both state and federal yesterday. My federal return has already been accepted, my NY state return has not been accepted yet.

Trying to understand what order I should approach this-- should I delete my amended federal return, then submit amended state, then recreate and submit amended federal?

No, in @LindaS5247 's answer she assumed that you did not need to file the federal return.

It seems like you have done everything correctly and you have successfully efiled both amended returns.  You just need to be patient while New York accepts your amendment.  They're a little busy this time of year.

Thanks Robert. However, I have not efiled the amended returns. I am unable to efile the amended NY return due to the error above (which is why I created this post).

@RobertB4444 @LindaS5247  (thank you for your help!!)
