Can I claim part time resident for Michigan?

For context, I moved for a job at the end of May to Texas with new lease signed and everything. This was my first time moving to a different state and I guess the thought of changing residency flew over my head. So technically I still hold a Michigan license but was wondering if I could claim part time residence for Michigan, since I have all the documents to prove that I had the intent to leave Michigan plus lived in Texas for more than half the year.

Yes,  you will file a part-year return for MI.   TX has no state income tax so nothing to prepare or file for TX.   In MY INFO you need to make sure you go through the screens slowly and carefully so that you answer all the questions about moving from one state to another and making money in another state.

Use your current correct mailing address on your tax return.

@xmasbaby0 Thank you for replying! Just a follow-up question then: For the date in which I put down when I became a Texas resident, should it be safe to put down the day I moved to Texas? Since I technically don't have Texas ID yet, not sure about the date

Q. For the date in which I put down when I became a Texas resident, should it be safe to put down the day I moved to Texas?

A. Yes, for tax purposes, that is the date you changed state residency.
