Although I changed the Residency section, the amount of state tax pending approval did not change.

Can you please clarify your situation to include the states in question?  Were you a nonresident or part-year resident for a specific state and made changes to the "My info" section of the program?  

 

Preparing state returns can be tricky.  If you moved from one state to another, in most cases, you will need to prepare your prior year resident state return first.  If you lived in one state and worked in another state, taxes might vary.
