Allocated federal Amounts to Lois

This years Maryland state tax is harder then it ever was.  This part is usually easy!  I do not understand this question.  As a married couple filing a joint return, you may be able to exclude part of your income from MD taxes.  To help us calculate how much to exclude, enter Lois portion of the total amount for the item below.

Taxable State Refund

You have my data from this year and last.  What are you asking?

Again, did you receive a 1099G-state and local tax refund and report it into your return?  If you did not receive this, just ignore this question.

To check to see if you entered this, go to:

  1. Federal>wages and income>all income>other common income
  2. Refunds Received for State/Local Tax Returns>start or revisit
  3. If nothing is entered, ignore the question.  If listed, select edit to see what that amount is and then allocate 1/2 to Lois.

thanks for the advice. i'm just wondering though if it is really that simple, why wouldn't TurboTax do this automatically? Seems like taking your 1099G and dividing by 2 is something that TurboTax should be handling by itself. Odd that Turbotax isn't offering and help/advice on this page.

Unfortunately, this is not an automatic calculation that can be applied to all cases, so each taxpayer must enter the amount manually.
