Enter your Minnesota (MN) Frontline Worker Pay by selecting the Wages and Income section.

  1. Scroll down to Less Common Income > Select Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C
  2. Select Other reportable Income > Enter the description (MN Frontline) and the amount

This income is not taxable on the MN state return. Please review the FAQ’s  Frontline Worker Pay Website for more information.

When you prepare your state tax return for MN, you will be asked if you received income from the MN Frontline Worker Pay, please select yes, and enter the amount so it will be deducted from your income on your state tax return.

Turbotax says that to enter something in other income, you have to upgrade from the free version to a paid version.  I there somewhere to enter it to keep the free version?  In all other respects, I have a very simple return.

The IRS requires income to be reported in various ways depending on exactly what it is.  They want identification of the income and you would want that as well to eliminate questions down the road.  The IRS is very delayed in coming to ask questions on a return (at least two years in many, many cases).

When you have items that require these explanations and specific lines of entry it's quite likely a different version of the software must be used.

The link below may help answer your questions about why an upgrade is needed.
