It's all right. The date of death will be used on her 2025 tax return for both the federal and state, only if a tax return is required for 2025. You may be able to select 'Deceased' however, again it didn't happen in 2024. Double check your printed returns to confirm as well before you file your mother's return. You can save as a PDF.
You have access to all forms when you choose to print your return in TurboTax Online/Mobile. However you are required to pay before printing, but do not have to file until you are ready.
We are sorry for your loss.
Thank you for quick response, I checked the printed form and the Deceased on the PA-40 is "N" and the deceased date is blank. The State of PA has no indication that she has been deceased. What would be the proper way to sign the PA form?
You should select Deceased as the filing status and put the date of death.
You should write 'Deceased' in her signature spot, then sign your name. The return must report all the decedent’s that tax years income, payments, and credits. The person signing the decedent’s return must indicate his or her relationship to the decedent (executor or person responsible for the affairs of the decedent).
You can mail the return to the appropriate address:
PA DEPT OF REVENUE, REFUND OR CREDIT REQUESTED, 3 REVENUE PLACE HARRISBURG PA 17129-0003
No Refund, No Payment
PA DEPT OF REVENUE, NO PAYMENT OR NO REFUND, 2 REVENUE PLACE HARRISBURG PA 17129-0002
