Question says "Did you get a 1099-R in 2021?". I got one in 2022 for a 2021 withdrawal. Do I say yes or is that for next year?

Are you preparing a 2021 tax return?   Is your 1099R for the withdrawal you took out in 2021?   Then say yes and enter your 1099R.

To enter your retirement income, Go to  Federal> Wages and Income>Retirement Plans and Social Security>IRA  401 k) Pension Plan Withdrawals to enter your 1099R.

FYI ... all 2021 tax reporting forms are issued and sent to you in Jan of 2022 but they are still 2021 documents to be entered on a 2021 return.  Next January of 2023  all the 2022 tax docs will be issued and mailed.

That's what I would think too, but the question when doing taxes is not clear.  It says "Did you get a 1099-R IN 2021?" not "FOR 2021?", which I think it should be changed to.  I even called the funds company who said that my form was sent early this year (what I thought) and that the form would be used for next year's taxes.  Color me more confused......

Did you take a withdrawal in 2021?  What year is on the 1099R form in the upper right?  2021 or 2022?

I checked the Online version.  Yeah that looks funny...did you get a 1099R

in

2021.  I checked my Desktop program, it just says Did you receive any 1099R forms?  Online should say it the same way or say "for 2021".

@xmasbaby0  can you pass that on?

A withdrawal was taken in 2021 and the box does say 2021 also.  My confusion lies with the TurboTax question (Did you receive it IN 2021?) as well as the investment company rep saying it was sent in 2022 to be used for next year's taxes.

That's what I'm thinking.  I haven't had this issue before with other forms in any year.

And either the investment company was wrong or you didn't understand them or he didn't understand you.  Don't worry about it.  It is a 2021 withdrawal and goes on your 2021 return.
