My husband passed on 2022. I’ve re received form 1099-C, Do I need to file a return for him? I tried to do it adding deceased but the form says year not earlier than 2023

Do I file or not?

Is this a debt for which you are jointly liable?  Or was only your spouse liable for the debt?

Your deceased husband will not be listed on your 2023 Federal 1040 tax return.

Was an IRS form 1041 Income tax return for an estate prepared for your spouse?  Perhaps the income needs to be reported on an IRS form 1041 income tax return for his estate?

Contact legal counsel who assisted you in taking care of your husband's probate for guidance.

Sorry for your loss.

Unfortunately I did it myself, therefore I do not have anyone else to ask. I am going to try doing it through your website this year, I was going to try to download my documents and then I got that form 1099-C. I erased my information thinking I will do his first, now I do not know what to do as it does not let me go ahead saying date cannot be before 01/01/2023. Please advise.

You can not enter the income on your return. Please see 1099-c for deceased spouse - TurboTax Support - Intuit. In addition, the IRS has a quick  How Do I File a Deceased Person interactive assistant. It is very detailed and may give you additional information.

I am very sorry for your loss.
