No it's not a W2.  It goes in its own place.

Enter a 1099R under
Federal Taxes
Wages & Income
Then scroll way down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
Then IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R) – Click Start

Don't type the bank name or try to import it.
At the bottom pick - Change How I enter my Form
Then on the next screen pick - I'll Type it in Myself

No---do not enter a 1099R like a W-2.

To enter your retirement income, Go to  Federal> Wages and Income>Retirement Plans and Social Security>IRA  401 k) Pension Plan Withdrawals to enter your 1099R.

Use this link for instructions on entering your 1099-R - there is a special place to enter these in Retirement Income - do not enter it as a w-2.   Where do I enter a 1099-R?

Here's where to enter your 1099-R in TurboTax:

  1. Open or continue your return.
  2. In the Federal section, select Wages & Income.
  3. Scroll to locate Retirement Plans and Social Security.
  4. Select Start or Revisit next to IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R).
