See below for a workaround when your spouse does not  have a Social Security Number.

If you are a US citizen or US resident and your spouse does not have a Social Security number or an ITIN  (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number) and you are not applying for an ITIN with the tax return then you can only file your tax return as Married Filing Separately.

Where asks in TurboTax to enter the spouse's Social Security number:

  1. Enter 305-44-0001. This is only a "dummy" Social Security so that you can complete your tax return in TurboTax.
  2.  Once your return is complete, you will need to print your return and white-out the 'dummy" Social Security number.  You can only print and mail your tax return, it cannot be e-filed.
  3. After you 'white-out" the  "dummy" Social Security number for your spouse ,  manually enter NRA for non-resident alien in the space for your spouse's Social Security Number..

See this TurboTax support FAQ for the procedure to print and mail a tax return using the online editions -

How do I print and mail a return in the TurboTax ...

Your spouse would only need to report her income if you were filing your tax return as Married Filing Jointly, applying for an ITIN with the tax return and you would be providing a statement with your tax return that you want your Nonresident Alien Spouse Treated as a Resident.

Please see below for more information on how to apply for an ITIN.

In case anybody (like me) wonders where this information was taken from and if it's accurate, if you check https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040gi.pdf page 14 it states under married filing separetely section:

"If your spouse doesn’t have
and isn’t required to have an SSN or
ITIN, enter “NRA” in the entry space
below the filing status checkboxes
"
