Do I have to file taxes if I made under $10,000 (some was 1099- Misc income) as a full time student that my parent is claiming?

Do I have to file as a student who made less than $10,000?

Yes, you have to file.

As a single person who is under age 65 and being claimed by someone else your IRS filing requirement is $6,300.

If your 1099-Misc income less your expenses is greater than $400 you will also owe Self-employment Tax (Medicare and Social Security).

I earned less than $ 6000 in 2020 so do I still need to file? Also please tell me how to file/where to report my 1099 NEC?

If you have received a 1099 NEC for more than $600, then you do have to file a tax return.

To enter the 1099 NEC follow these steps:

  1. Log into your TurboTax account
  2. Type 1099 nec in the search box
  3. Click on Jump to 1099 NEC.

The 2020 filing threshold for self-employment income is net earnings of at least $400.

I work as self employed for Uber and I got 2020 earning from Uber and Uber note said "2020 Uber 1099 Misc was not issued.  Because my earn were below the IRS Income threshold. Uber will not issued 1099 tax form for me"

 So I follow that.

You need to report all your income even if you don't get a 1099NEC or 1099Misc. You use your own records. You are considered self employed and have to fill out a schedule C for business income. You use your own name, address and ssn or business name and EIN if you have one. You should say you use the Cash Accounting Method and all income is At Risk.

Do you need to file a return? Yes if you have $400 or more in self-employment net earnings (gross income minus expenses)

Just enter it as Other self employment income or as Cash or General income. You don't need to get a 1099NEC or 1099K. Even if you did you can enter all your income as Cash. Only the total goes to schedule C.

You can enter Self Employment Income into Online Deluxe or Premier but if you have any expenses you will have to upgrade to the Self Employed version. Or use any of the Desktop CD/Download programs. How to enter income from Self Employment
