My husband is in the air force reserves and is is not taxed for state so it is showing that I owe for my state taxes, how do I change that and have it be due to military?

In order for W2 income to show as military you will need to check the box for "Active Military Duty" in the federal  "Wages & Income" section.  Here are the steps.

In the left hand menu:

  1. Click "Wages & Income"
  2. Scroll to the "Job (W2)" topic
  3. "Edit/Add"
  4. Find and "Review" your "Military W2"
  5. Enter/Verify entries on the form
  6. Continue through to the page titled "Let's check for Uncommon Situations"
  7. Scroll down and select the "Active Military Duty" item
  8. Continue

This will tag the income as military when it transfers to your state returns.  When you go through your state returns it will depend on the state as to how the income will be handled.  Some state interviews automatically exclude the income but for some you will have to verify/confirm the income amount.

Other items related to military to check are in the "My Info" section.  Be sure you have selected "Military" for your spouse and indicated his status (Reserves) and his rank for a potential discount on your TurboTax fees.

Also here is a link with more information on military filing by states, if you need.  You will be able to confirm how your state handles the military income.
