TT Business 2017 Bug. The program constantly asks for Rental Real Estate Income, but I answered NO to the question "Do you have rental real estate activity.

My initial search did not reveal anything similar reported.

Using TT Bus 2017 Windows PC version. The program asks "Do You Have Rental Real Estate?", to which I answer NO. However every time that I switch tasks within TT, a screen pops up advising me "You indicated earlier that you have rental real estate activity", and directs me to the rental real estate tab to enter data.

I even went back and opened last year's (TT Bus. 2016) program to make sure that there wasn't something being carried over, but there was not.

Thank you all for being persistent about this issue. We've taken a deeper look and have indeed discovered a minor bug in our code. It's fixed now and should be getting out to all of you in one of our next releases.

Many apologies for this annoying inconvenience!

Hi, it's March 5th today. My TurboTax Business 2017 says it's up-to-date. But this issue is not fixed yet. When will it be fixed? This is urgent.

Ok ... strange at it may seem go back to that section and answer YES ... then delete the unwanted Sch E form that must be hiding in the background.

Thank you for the reply.
I tried what you suggested, and a form 8825 was created. Is that the Sch E form that you mean?
Assuming it is, I deleted the form 8825, and no luck. The program then advised me to go back to the business info section, then to keep clicking "continue" until I get to the "rental real estate section", but it did not ask me if I had any rental real estate, it just wants info on the rental real estate that I don't have.

call for;
1) When in your account, select the Take Me to My Return button on the main screen.

I'm not sure that those instructions are for the current version of TT, as right from the first step I cannot find a "Take Me To My Return" button.
Just to clarify, the issue that I am reporting happens before I even enter any data....it begins right after transferring last years TT data in.

Hi miklb582 - I hope I can help get you through this issue you're having.

The fact that you are seeing a screen that says "You indicated earlier....", indicates that somewhere you told us (perhaps inadvertently) that you have rental real estate activity.

So first off, select the Business Info tab, and look at what you have about midway down at the line "Type of business:". If there is anything there that indicates any type of rental real estate activity, select the Edit button, and clear the checkbox for renting real estate. Now you can select the Income section or Deductions section, and the "You indicated earlier....." statement should be gone.

Thanks for the advise, but it did not make a difference.
1) I clicked on the Business Info Tab>>Type of Business button, and nothing was checked. I checked "Other">>next, and the info was self populated from prior years as a fitness center. No other info in there.
2) I then started over. Opened my 2016 TT Business, and made sure that there was not anything entered into the Type of Business area that would indicate that we had rental activity, and there was not. Also, the 2016 version for this company does not show a "Rental Real Estate" sub section under the "Federal Taxes" tab, like it does in the 2017 version.
At this point I close 2016 TT.
3) I then opened 2017 TT Business, and start a new return, and import from last year's return, looked in the Type of Business section, checked "other", then next, and it self populated as Fitness center. No other info. in there.
At this point, clicking continue from the Business Info section takes me through Member questions. I click through all of that making sure that there are no errors, and as soon as I click on the income subsection, the screen shows up telling that "You indicated earlier that you had rental real estate activity"
Very frustrating!

Did you switch to the FORMS mode yet ? Maybe you will find the issue there ? If not there will be many more updates before the program is fully operational ... and the business returns cannot be filed yet anyway. https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1908855-forms-availability-table-for-turbotax-business-federal

Thanks for providing all the additional detail. I'm sorry this continues to be a frustration, and without seeing your actual file, it's difficult to know what's going on. The good news is that you can simply ignore that message and just continue on entering your income and deductions. We added that message just to alert those who truly have rental activity to make sure they are entering it in the right section. But since you don't have any, just ignore.

@Critter#2 . I did look in the forms, and see nothing that relates to rental real estate, and specifically, no K-1's and no Sch. E.
I even looked in my 2016 return to make sure there were no rental real estate forms in there either, and there were none.

Must be a bug ... if it doesn't resolve itself by the time the forms are ready to efile then contact support for assistance.

After the update on 02/09/18, the problem remains.
Not sure how to contact support, or if it is even worth it.

I had the same problem and was able to fix by going to business info, changing business type to something else, click through until getting past the problem spot in income. then went back and changed business info to the original detail and the rental real estate insistence was gone!

I take that back. there is still a screen for rental real estate at the beginning of income and deductions, but continue button is now enabled to skip past it. clearly a bug that should have been fixed by now.

@netman6000 Thanks for trying. I may attempt it, but I have always been able to click continue and get past it, but as soon as I switch to any of the sub-tabs at the top (income, deductions, etc) I get the warning screen telling me that I answered yes to having rental real estate, and instructing me to enter details in the rental real estate area. I can click continue, and go do other work, but it's just a silly inconvenience.

I have the same problem --- I'm doing taxes for a company whose income is music royalties only and I keep being told that I indicated earlier that I have rental real estate activity. Never happened!

I am doing 2019 taxes now in 2/20, and the same problem seems to persist. Amazing, a whole new tax year, and Intuit still has not gotten around to fixing the "bug"?!?

Year after year, same problem, same bug, no fix. TT keeps asking me for real estate income, but nowhere did I indicate that my business is real estate income. Will TT ever fix this bug? Seems simple enough to fix!!

Try deleting the real estate form 1099 S. As long as you have not already filed or paid for your return, here is how you can Delete a form from your Turbo Tax online return.
