Can my kids 1099-DIV and 1099-B go on the basic free Turbo tax edition? Small accounts used for college

No, they won't be able to use the TurboTax Free Edition since they have stock trades.

 

However,  they may use the IRS Free File Program delivered by TurboTax . It's geared towards lower-income filers, regardless of tax return complexity, and is only offered through the IRS Free File Alliance (FFA) program. No upgrades are available.

what is the total of the dividends and the capital gains? if less than $350, they would not need to file.
