After you file

First check your e-file status, to ensure your State return was submitted. Also be sure when checking the status of your State refund on your State's Department of Revenue website, to enter the dollar amount of your State Refund only. (How do I track my state refund?)

Each state processes differently and at different times so the time frame can vary. Also, keep in mind some tax returns need extra review for accuracy, completeness and to protect taxpayers from fraud and identity theft. Extra processing time may be necessary.

If you're concerned, contact your state department of revenue at the link given below. Click on your state for contact information:

If you are also looking for your Federal Refund from the IRS, . after acceptance, but before processing the status may not be available. This is normal, until the government starts reviewing and processing your return, they won't have any record of it.

The IRS issues most refunds in about 21 days, although some returns take more time to review.

To find out where your refund is, first check your e-file status. If it's been processed and accepted, you can begin to track your refund at the IRS Where's My Refund? site. You'll need your Social Security number or ITIN, filing status, and the exact amount of your refund to check your status. The IRS will issue your refund when your return is approved.
