Get your taxes done using TurboTax
If you did not e-file by midnight on October 16, 2023, your 2021 AGI will not help you now. E-filing is closed for returns that were not e-filed and either accepted or rejected before the deadline. You do not need your AGI in order to mail your return. You only need it to e-file. If you did not try to e-file in time, then you are going to need to print, sign and date your return in ink, and mail it in. Better do that very soon before the system makes it impossible for you to print. You will have to pay your TurboTax fees in order to print.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
If you did e-file by midnight and the return was rejected, you have five days to correct it and re-file. Calling the IRS is not an effective way to get your AGI, since hold times can be extremely long.
If it was rejected for AGI—-be aware that many 2021 returns took so long for the IRS to process that your 2021 AGI might not be in the IRS system. Try using zero instead.
If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year. The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.
And....here is how to get a transcript of a past year return:
You can get a free transcript from the IRS:
