My kid of 5 years started attending Kumon in MN for math and reading from 2018 Jun. Total expenses for 2018 was $1590. Can I claim this towards MN K12 education credit?

Yes, fees paid for individual instruction by a qualified instructor, such as tutoring and music lessons qualify for either the subtraction or the credit.

To enter your K-12 education expenses in your Minnesota return, please follow these steps:

  1. Go into your MN return.
  2. On the screen, K-12 Education Credit click the Yes box.
  3. On the screen, Qualifying Expenses and School click the Yes box.
  4. Continue through the screens, entering the requested information.
  5. If you don't qualify for the K-12 Education Credit, you may qualify for the Education Expenses Deduction.  TurboTax will walk you through the steps.
