Failed Validation - my turbotax deluxe is up to date but it still asks for an update

FAILED_VALIDATION.  There is an update available for your version of TurboTax.  Before you can file electronically, you'll need to get this update.  To do this, go to the Online menu and select Check for Updates.

Purchased Turbotax 2024 Deluxe from Costco. My state is California.

Finished all steps but failed to transmit results to e-file. Error said my software is not the latest version and asked to check for updates in Online menu.

Did that - checker said no update available because I'm on the latest version.

Searched some forum and did the following: uninstalling all previous versions from "Add or Remove Programs" including 2024 Deluxe; delete all folders of previous versions in C://Program Files; reinstalling 2024 Deluxe; installed the "superpatch" also called a "manual update" from https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/update-products/manually-update-turbotax-windows-software-basic/L3Wf9OPaf_US_en_US?uid=m75ssxrv

In my update history, there is also a patch for California.

My laptop meets all system requirements from what a TTX expect said https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/taxes/discussion/failed-validation-during-transmission/00/3461000

Completely ran out of solutions.

Hi all,

A few days after I posted the issue, I opened TTX 2024 desktop again and it automatically wanted an update. The update was released 2/12, for California. I let it run and then I could submit my taxes!

Still can't believe how the 2/12 patch wasn't applied the first time that I installed the software which was 2/14.

My suggestion: everyday restart your computer and launch TTX. Eventually, you may see that patch.

TurboTax needs to work better on those state tax issues!!

Hi,

Those steps have already been tried out :(  It seems to be a universal CA issue. Thanks anyway!

Hi, I just post a solution 🙂

p.s. I can see how frustrated you are that you created an account called failedvalidation lol. Hope it helps!

Same thing here. I've uninstalled, restarted, and reinstalled multiple times. I can file the Federal return, but California will not update past 1/22/25, and it will not file either. The superpatch does not work, and the disclaimer that it does not work for states does not help. I bought the state from TurboTax; I expect it to work or to at least provide a solution that does. The link to other resources is worthless. I could have paid a CPA to do my taxes for the time I've spent trying to simply file.

TTCleanStatesTool.zip does not work for me. I've run it as administrator, and it says it removes the state, but it does not. I've removed all from personal and business and restarted in between. I'm still stuck with CA on 1/22/25 without being able to file.

I finally got out of the loop and was able to file my taxes. After uninstalling, restarting, and reinstalling, I launched TurboTax and told it to not update. I then started a blank return so that it does automatically identify that I want CA, and I manually told it to add CA. When I did  this, it finally installed the 2/12/25 update. I then ran the update, closed this return, opened my original completed return, and it allowed me to file.

I had the failed validation message as well. I turned off all my security software, rebooted my laptop repeatedly, tried to send just the federal first....nada. Waited a day....nada.  Each time I did the required check in the Online drop down to get the latest software update...no luck. Then I noticed that you could manually download the software update to your computer. I did that AND IT WORKED!! I sent my federal return and it went immediately. Then I sent my state return and it went immediately. So if you are getting the failed validation message, try the manual download method for the update.
