There are 3 "needs review" items under "Untitled" in the investment income section. All have $0.00 box 1. They seem to be ghosts. How can I delete them?

If these investments are reported on a Form 1099 you can delete them using the instructions below.  I am using a Form 1099-INT for this example, but it will be basically the same for a 1099-DIV and 1099-B.

To delete your Form 1099-INT, you can do the following:

For TurboTax Desktop:

  1. Open/continue your return
  2. Click on "Search
  3. And in the search bar type"1099-INT"
  4. Select "Jump to 1099-INT"
  5. It'll take you to a screen that shows your Form(s) 1099-INT that you have entered.
  6. Next to the Form 1099-INT you want to delete, click on the (down-Facing) caret
  7. Click on the "garbage can" to delete this form

For TurboTax Online:

  1. Open/continue your return
  2. Click on magnifying glass for Search in the top right of your screen
  3. And in the search bar type"1099-INT"
  4. Select "Jump to 1099-INT"
  5. It will take you to a screen that shows your Form(s) 1099-INT that you have entered.
  6. Next to the Form 1099-INT you want to delete, click on the (down-Facing) caret
  7. Click on the "garbage can" to delete this form

When I click on the trash can, the entire investment income list turns gray.  I am forced to click on the gray section to get back where I started.  I can ignore all of the investment incomes with a value of $0 but it's an annoying distraction.

If you are using TurboTax Online, try clearing your cache and see if that helps.

If you are using the desktop product, make sure your program is updated.  This can be done by logging into your desktop product.  Select Online in the menu on the top, and then select Check for Updates.

Many times, this update your program and allow you to proceed.

Thanks but those suggestions didn't help.  I use the Macbook desktop version and always install updates before proceeding.  I still get a grayed out window when clicking on the trash can to delete investment income with a value of $0.

Double check your operating system can handle the program. An older system may not support this year what it could last year. Graying out seems odd rather than deleing.

Operating systems supported: Windows 10 or later (64-bit), macOS Ventura 13 or later, click here for full system requirements.

I am on the latest version of Mac OS (Sequoia 15).  When I try deleting investment income of $0 the window still grays out.  The solution is more complicated than telling me to make sure my Turbo Tax and Mac OS are updated.  Maybe I should become a Turbo Tax tester for you 🙂

If you'd like, we can look at your return and see if we can recreate the issue to help come to a resolution. The return will be scrubbed and won't include any of your personal details.

  • Click on Online in the top menu of TurboTax Desktop for Windows
  • Select 'Send Tax File to Agent'
  • Write down or send an image of your token number and state then place in this issue.
  • We can then review your exact scenario for a solution

Please reply to this message with your token so that we can further assist you. Let us know all other states that are included on the return.
