In the Express Scripts/Cigna exchange, I had 90 shares with a tax basis of 380.80. I received 21 shares of Cigna and 4387.50 cash. What is my basis in the cash?

@Jackie334  In your scenario it is gains but cash is not cash  for everyone depending on their cost basis in this deal or anyone reading this, it does depend on your cost basis per share to determine if there is a gain.  If you want help in the basis of your new shares....

Your 21 shares have a basis of $380.80.   Cash is cash.   Your taxable gain is the cash $4,387.50.   Congratulations, quite a gain.
