I see an option to enter both stimulus check details but what if I know I am not eligible for the first stimulus check and enter 0, it is still showing stimulus refund?

I am not eligible for the first stimulus check but when I enter 0 in the first stimulus check payment in turboxtax, it is adding stimulus payment as refund in my federal even I am not eligible. What should I do?

The payments were an advance credit for 2020.  2019 information was used in determining the payments since 2020 tax returns had not been filed at the point the stimulus payments were sent out.  They are being reconciled when you do your 2020 return.

You will be eligible or ineligible based on your 2020 income.

@CatinaT1  The reason for ineligibility is not income but having mixed status (SSN+iTIN) because for the first stimulus check, people with mixed status was not eligible. What should I do in that case? I cannot enter 0 as it is increasing my federal refund and thinking I am eligible for stimulus check?

The amount of the Rebate Recovery Credit is based upon your actual 2020 income tax return you file.  Therefore, if you meet the criteria for the credit, you will receive it when you prepare your 2020 income tax return.

Please see the excerpt below from the IRS.  You are entitled to a partial credit if you were eligible even though your spouse did not have a Social Security number on file.

Please see the attached link for more information on who can claim the credit and all other requirements.
