You can only amend your return once it moves into accepted status.
If your return is pending, here's what you can do:
- Find out if you even need to amend.
- Check your e-file status. It usually takes 24-72 hours for your return to be accepted by the IRS.
We recommend that you wait to file your amendment until you have received your refund or three weeks from the date of payment of taxes due.
