Wrong State ID #

My w2 didn’t have a state ID # on it. I put my employers EIN # in the states Id part. Will my return be held up or rejected?

If you entered a number in the state ID box that does not fit the required format for your state, your return may get rejected.

If you have already e-filed your return and it does reject, you can easily go back to that W-2 and correct it.

You can reach out to your state's Department of Revenue to confirm the number.

You can find contact  information for your state's Department of Revenue by clicking here.

If your return does reject, You will be able to edit your W-2 entries as follows:

If you are using TurboTax Online/Mobile: you can use this link W-2or you can:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Go to "wages and income"
  3. Under W-2's select "Add/Edit" next to your W-2 that you need to edit.  (See the screenshots below for additional guidance)

If you are using TurboTax Desktop:

  1. 1. Open your return
  2. 2. In the Search bar, enter "W-2" and select the "Jump to" link. This will take you to your W-2 entries
  3. 3. Select the (down) caret next to your W-2 and then select "Edit"    (See screenshot below for additional guidance)
