Why is it taking more than 21 days to get an update on my refund?

My return was accepted 30 days ago. It's past the timeframe for ACTC and EIC delays. There had been no update to my refund status. Why might it be taking so long?

You can use this IRS tool Where's My Refund? to check on the status of your refund. It provides updates regarding the processing of your tax return. This is the best way to track the status of your refund.

You can also call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday.

When you e-file your tax return with TurboTax and choose direct deposit, the IRS should notify you  that your return has been accepted within one or two days.

After your tax return has been "Accepted" by the IRS it will be" Processing" until the tax refund has been "Approved" and then you will see an Issue Date on the IRS website.

As you know, returns claiming the EIC and ACTC were delayed by the Path Act until March 3, if you chose direct deposit and there were no other issues with your return.
