Why am I unable to file 1040ez this year if I have had no changes from previous years? I have a very simple return.

Because the Form 1040-EZ is no longer available this year.  With the new tax form TCJA, both Forms 1040-EZ and 1040A are all consolidated to be a one postcard form of 1040 plus schedules 1 to 6.
