If you are getting the error message "We cannot provide any information about your refund" when trying to check the status, this should be able to assist you with that: https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/4242575

Hello TiffanyL;

I went to the IRS's Where's My Refund and entered my information correctly (I tried three different times just to be sure.) The reply has always been "We cannot provide any information about your refund." The return was prepared and mailed around March 5th. I even tried the automated telephone number and got the same result.

So what do I do now? Should I call even though the IRS website said that agents do not have more info than the WMR? Or should I just mail in a new copy with a cover letter?

I do not and will not e-file.

Any help would be appreciated...

Sincerely;

Michelle

@Michelle44

If you mailed your tax return please be aware that the IRS is operating on a very limited basis (or not at all) for processing mailed tax returns per the message on their website: https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue

Also the IRS advises that you do not mail in the tax return again.

Hi @JeanneLO ,

I am in the same position as OP. It has been over 6 weeks since we mailed our returns in. Should we E-file them, call the IRS, or do we just continue to wait?

Thanks for your help!

For me it’s been over 8 weeks. What does this mean. That the IRS just didn’t get to the return or they dismantled receive it or something else

The online link is your best option to track your refund.  I have attached a link with more answers from the IRS as to why your refund may be taking longer to process.

Federal refund questions

There is a delay in processing the returns as the IRS is not processing paper returns at the moment due to Covid-19 and social distancing policies in effect.

Hello,

Thanks for the information. I am one of those people who had to file paper return because of first year-residency election. I have been waiting for more than 6 weeks now without any update on the progress. It is not fair for IRS not processing any of those returns as people like me were relying on that money, what is more, we were not able to get my stimulus check because IRS does not process my 2019 tax return yet so they do not have my bank account details to send my government issued check. They even started to discuss sending 2nd stimulus checks, yet we have not received anything.

I understand they released this news on 19th May saying that they limited the operations for paper returns however at the same time they should have provided some solution for those people (10% according to the IRS website) who has to and/or willing to file paper return as their own choice. It does not make sense at all.

They say do not call us, do not write us to check the status and then what, we will have to wait forever for them to process our refunds and send out those checks? There must be something that we could do.

Any ideas please?

Hello all,

IRS says they started to process tax returns again. Is there anyone who received their refunds for paper returns yet? It has been 10 weeks for me.

Utku

Hey @utku any luck with your return? I filed around the time you posted in June and I'm now at the 10 week mark so I'm calibrating my expected wait time around whatever your outcome was lol

Hello;

I mailed my tax return in early March and received my refund by mid-July. I heard somewhere that the IRS was processing mail in the order received - first in, first out.

Sincerely;

Michelle

I now have this problem as well.  I e-filed in March and have been checking back on the website often. For months the Where's My Refund? tool showed that it was being processed.  I checked today and it has changed to the "We cannot provide any information about your refund" stage.  Of course you can't get a living person on the phone, so I'm curious what this means for my refund. Does anyone have any ideas at all?  Thanks in advance

@Jessica16, I'm getting the same error message!

I'm trying to find out what is going on with my refund because last year the IRS sent me a letter telling me that my SS came up for someone who is dead(after I e-filed) which I'm not. I've sent the IRS all the paperwork they asked for to prove that I am not deceased, and here we are almost a year later and no answers. I got my stimulus check and my state tax refund, so I know this is an error on the part of the IRS.

I've worked since I was 16 and I've never had as much trouble with the IRS as I am having now.

@ThedaBara1885 @Thank you so much for getting back to me! Yes crazy right like ok so how did my state which is California approve me for my state refund so what’s up with the federal. I’ve had the same job since 2016 . I don’t even want to call the irs because I don’t want another letter. Also, I’ve been very anxious so I’ve been checking the irs page since the update started just in case it updated sooner, it said it would finish updating 7am eastern time so here it would’ve been 4am and when I tried to input my info to submit to see the update it said the website is down so I kept trying after 4am almost every 30 minutes until 1pm today and then it changed to my information I entered was incorrect...so hopefully it’s just their system trying to catch up with all the info because so am trying to see when I’ll get my stimulus using the other I guess link on the website so hopefully it’s updated by Wednesday the latest I’m really hoping for my refund before I file my 2020 taxes. I wish you the best of luck as well and I’ll keep updating on here. Can’t tell you what a relief it is to have or see someone else comment a similar experience because I’ve been googling and I’ve only came across some comments from a few years back that were somewhat similar.

I filed electronically March 19 and only two weeks ago, the status changed from accepted to processing. Now after the update, I get the message that no info can be found. I haven't received any correspondence via mail either. All my info is correct. when I use the go2 app, it claims my info is incorrect. Again it is correct. I'm not a happy camper. I, like so many others, would like to know what's going on.

@Feathers64 @Hello. Very frustrating however, I have been googling quite a bit and in the past when it’s done this some people report that writhing a few days or 2 weeks the site goes back to actually recognizing the info and shows an update and some people were saying that they ended up receiving a direct deposit or check in the mail without seeing an update which I really hope is the case. I keep checking to see if I’ll get the stimulus which I should I work about 77 hours and I’ve made under $19k just working my part time job so that qualifies me for the stimulus just as last time but I wonder if this update on the it’s site has messed with my stimulus because it’s going off of what was submitted for our 2019 taxes. Thankfully October was the last letter I received which was in the 6th of October 2019 so I think until the end of January early February we should have our refunds I’m really hoping

If you filed your 2019 and there is no status, you may have to contact the IRS.

My fiancé filed his 2019 return in February 4th 2020 and they audited it due to a small mistake, it’s now been over a year and for the past 4-5 months every time he calls they say "we need more time". It was already sent to his turbo tax bank account and sent back since TurboTax cancelled the card due to inactivity, so now every time he calls he gets told he needs to wait 8-10 weeks.. and other bull.. we still haven’t received the second stimulus or the refund for 2020.. probably won’t either.. i Just don’t understand why they are allowed to hold back 2 tax refunds, one for over a year but if you owe, you better not be a day late..

Why did it state this was a solved post when it is not. I went through HR Block and filed my taxes with a specialist. I got the very first stimulus check and that was it. Now we are about to file taxes again so they will owe me again for this tax return as well. THEN I never got the 2nd stimulus check and now they are sending out a 3rd one and I won't have that. Do you KNOW how much money that is that I could be using to fix my house and stack my fridge etc. They give no guidance they don't care if you call they don't want you to contact them but what about us that are suffering out here? You owe us the money now give us the (explicit) money like you would be hounding us if we owed IRS. They would be garnishing your pay and everything.

One thing we have learned in the past year is the government does not care about people and their financial struggles. Here we are in the middle of a pandemic and they are fighting about sending out stimulus checks and taxes when it's been over a year. I got 1 $1,200 check to help me and they want to argue if they should be giving people more stimulus checks? 1,200 a year you think that helps America? This is all very infuriating and then to get on the phone with someone with an attitude because you need help getting your money is even worse. This country has a really really REALLY big issue right now. I want my DANG MONEY NOW!

For more information on the status of your 2019 refund you may wish to call the IRS.  To contact the IRS, please review the steps and information below:

IRS Support Number: (800) 829-1040

To reach a live agent at the IRS support number, follow these steps:

1.      Select your preferred language.

2.      Press 2 for “Personal Income Tax”

3.      Press 1 for “Form, Tax History, or Payment”

4.      Press 3 for “All Other Questions”

5.      Press 2 for “All Other Questions”

6.      Do not enter your SSN or EIN. It will ask you twice; do not enter anything.

7.      Press 2 for “Personal or Individual Tax Questions”

They are available Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. local time (Alaska & Hawaii follow Pacific Time).

If you don't receive your stimulus payment by the time you file your tax return, you can make an adjustment on your 2020 tax return for stimulus payments you qualify for, but have not received.

To do this in TurboTax, please follow these steps:

  1. Enter the information in your return.
  2. Click Federal Review at the top of your screen.
  3. On the screen, Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount, click Continue.
  4. You will be asked about the amounts of first round and second round stimulus payments you received
  5. TurboTax will then calculate the amount of stimulus payment remaining that you are still entitled to.  This will show as a credit on line 30 of the 1040.
