What should I do if I have been waiting 5 months to recieve my tax return but have not received anything do to complications with direct deposit/the bank account.

Bank account was closed before I could recieve tax returns. Have no idea where they went and tried to contact the IRS. I called twice and even went on their website, but had no luck. So where did my money go and how to get it back?

First of all---do you even know if the IRS has issued your refund?   Many refunds have been delayed---what does it say on the IRS refund site?  Does it show that your refund was sent?   it is possible that your refund has not even been issued yet.

TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 34of your 2020 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

To track your state refund:

If it says the refund was sent, and your bank account is closed or you gave incorrect banking information for your direct deposit, then the refund is sent back to the IRS.   Then the IRS issues a paper check and mails it to the address on your tax return.
