W2c After Filing

Hi,

i received a W2C with info only on box 12a AA and an amount below 100 USD.

I already filed my taxes, should i file an amendment?

I believe the change should not impact my tax liability but i am not sure whether or not i should inform the IRS regardless.

Thanks

Code AA in box 12 is for Designated Roth contributions under a section 401(k) plan.

Was this added to your W2 or was the amount changed?  The only thing this will impact is you could qualify for the Retirement Savings Contribution Credit. This could increase your refund or decrease your balance due.

You can look at the details here and see if you qualify - What is the 2023 Saver's Credit? It could be worth amending.

If you decide to amend, you should follow these guidelines.

  • You must first wait until the initial return is completely processed.
  • You will have to use the same TurboTax account that you used for the original tax return.
  • Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return.
  • The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due
  • Only make changes to the areas of your return that need amending.
  • You have three years from the date you filed your return or two years after you paid the tax due (whichever is later) to file an amendment

Select your product below and follow the instructions.

Thanks a lot for the prompt and insightful reply. 12AA was added to my W2 as i did not have any number in there before. My AGI is too high in order to get any benefit so, if I understood correctly your reply,  I do not need to file a tax return amendment correct?

Correct. Adding it would make no difference in the final result of your return, so there is no reason to amend.
