Tried to file Basic but kept bumping back to Deluxe…had no income or deductibles

I did not know that I didn’t even have to file IRS or State when having zero income and workers comp is not taxable income.

I tried to file free, basic tax returns but system kept me in Deluxe Edition which I didn’t want or need. At end I tried to downgrade or change but it said I had to use Deluxe.  I paid $190 for Fed and State just to get it done, before finding I did not have to file at all!

the only income I had to report was state refund  of @$1600from 2022.  No income, no deductions, no schedules or forms needed, just standard deduction and rent added to state return..got me zero $.  Why didn’t system pick up the no income entered and tell me no filing is needed.  I surely should receive refund of some of that $190!  Help?? Didn’t get any.

If you prepared your 2024 return (you don't need to report your 2022 state refund if you're not itemizing deductions), and your bottom line to Federal and State was $0, you don't need to file a return.

You could Contact TurboTax Support and use 'Billing' in the phone menu to speak to someone about a refund.

Here's more info on Filing Requirements.
