This is the second consecutive year (not period, just consecutive) that I did not receive my state tax refund. Why?

if you were due a refund, the easiest thing might be to contact your state department of revenue - income tax division to get an answer.

No one at TurboTax knows why.  Your state does not share any information with TurboTax after you file your tax return.  You will have to contact the state to find out why you did not receive your refund.

Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities,  There is no rule as to which one will come first or how much time there will be between their arrivals.

STATE RETURN

Make sure your state return was accepted

If you did not claim a refund on your tax return, that's because your withholding and other payments was not more than your tax.  If you want a refund, you will need to change your withholding to have more taken out each paycheck.

If you claimed a refund that was never paid/deposited, you need to contact your state.  Some reasons could include:

1. You didn't file a state return

2. The state kept your refund for other debts

3. The state was unable to pay a refund because your bank information was wrong or you moved and your mailing address is different.

Only you can contact the state and ask for an explanation.
