Software Update Changes Amount of Refund

I had a need to look at some 2020 information so I launched TurboTax Home & Business. The application indicated there were updates so I applied them. When I then looked at my return I see that the amount of refund for both federal and state are now different from what I electronically sent when I filed. (1) Is this normal behavior? (2) Should I file an amended return? (3) Is there an easy way to tell what changed?

It's somewhat normal for tax year 2020. If your refund or amount due is different from your filed return, that means you were affected by some tax law changes that were enacted after you filed your original income tax return. You can print out your revised income tax return and compare it to your filed return to see what changed.

If the change is due to unemployment, don't amend your income tax return.  The IRS will refigure your taxes and send any refund amount directly to you.

  • Go here for more unemployment updates as they become available.

I just had the exact thing happen to me except I was using the Deluxe version.  Did you ever find a solution to the problem or find an answer to your questions?
