Said I could be claimed, when in fact I cannot and was not.

while filing taxes i accidentally clicked the box that says someone can claim me, when in fact no one can and no one did. Will the IRS know i'm independent because no one claimed me or Do i need to amend my return in order to be viewed as an independent.

mainly concerned because i should be eligible for this corona virus relief payment but im afraid because i checked that box, I will not be viewed as an independent and therefore not eligible for the stimulus payment.

You will need to amend your 2019 tax return to correct the fact that you cannot be claimed as a dependent to be eligible for the stimulus payment.

To amend your return, please follow the instructions in this TurboTax Help topic.

Thats what I had assumed, so sent in my amended tax return last week and am just waiting to hear back, unfortunately I believe it will take up to 12 weeks to process that and I don't have a way of checking its status.

Hopefully once amended i will then be eligible to collect upon the stimulus benefit, just hoping they'll  still honor it and will have funds allocated for such instances.

Thank You! and if you have any other advice it'd truly be appreciated!
