Resolve issue with Non Filers tax return

Hello.

A few months back I was trying to get our stimulus check faster and filed a Non Filers by accident.  So it shows a 1040 with $0 earned.

Well, I mailed in our return, with $2430 refund, and it hasn't been completed or mailed back yet.

I was going to send an amended return, however, when I do it TurboTax, it doesn't show the refund on the main page.

Would just sending the amended return resolve my issue?

No.  You have to wait for the IRS to process your mailed return.

Sorry the IRS has limited staff due to Covid-19. They just started opening the mail in June that's been stacking up. So you have to keep waiting.

See this IRS page for the latest information

You do not amend a tax return if you are not making any changes to the original tax return that was filed.

When amending a tax return using TurboTax the refund meter is reset to zero until you start entering your tax data.

The IRS has processed only a very few paper filed tax return due to limited staffing because of the pandemic.  They have only just started with the paper returns on an as received basis.

Go to this IRS website for information - https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue

We’re experiencing delays in processing paper tax returns due to limited staffing. If you already filed a paper return, we will process it in the order we received it.

Do not file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.

Did you try to efile but it rejected?  You should look at this Reject notice to see what you should have done.
