Rejection email isn't helpful. 'HealthCoverageTaxCreditAmt' must have a non-zero value.

The full message in the email is:

IND-302 - If Form 8885 is present in the return, then 'OtherTaxAmtCd' in 'OtherTaxAmtGrp' in the return must have the value "HCTC" or Schedule 3 (Form 1040), 'HealthCoverageTaxCreditAmt' must have a non-zero value.

I have made sure everything is up to date and re-submitted and it was rejected again.

This looks to be from the health market place, but the app doesn't provide any direction on how to fix this.

I have been clicking around and see no mention of the form or anywhere to change this entry manually.

I appreciate the response.

The recommended steps just feed you in to an endless loop of irrelevant support articles.

This was a bug in TurboTax that was addressed in an update released this morning. After applying it, the return was accepted.

That error message should never have been mailed to the end user like that with zero direction on how to proceed. Not even a link to try to get support. I had to straight up do a google search to learn how to get help since turbotax.com wants to do nothing but send you in circles reading irrelevant articles. Once I finally got help they said they knew about the error and were doing an update. Not sure why I had to jump through all of those hoops if they knew about the error and were addressing it. Why not include that in the email?

In any case, it all worked out. I have been using TurboTax for over a decade now and this is the first time I've really been disappointed. I'll probably give them another try next year, but if this is going to be a regular thing I'll consider my other options as well.

Not all rejections have explicit instructions to fix them. If you aren't guided to a solution, search for the item causing your rejection and go to that section. You might also be able to find your rejection in the below list of common IRS rejects.

Please click How do I fix a rejected return? and follow the video that will help you fix your rejected return.
