My daughter (who is a dependent) had her SS info compromised somehow which resulted in both my family and her tax returns being rejected by Fed & State due to her tax return being completed by someone else. We had to print out and mail both returns but Turbo Tax still charged our CC for the electronic e-file on both returns (which didn't go through). How can I go about getting a refund of these charges?
If you used the ONLINE program the fee was for the use of the program to produce a return that could be filed even if you mailed it ... there is no extra fee for efiling.
That does make sense. Question though, I purchased Turbo Tax software from Costco so I wasn't using a free service. Does your answer still apply in this instance? I have free Federal tax returns on both but paid 2 separate transactions for two California State returns that were both bounced because someone filed a fraudulent tax return on behalf of my dependent daughter?
You can ask for a refund of the Desktop program state efile fees.
