Prior year tax information

My computer crashed in October 2024, and I had not backed up my data for about a year.   I have lost all of my 2023 turbo tax data.  Does turbo tax maintain files of completed information sent into the IRS for prior years??  I have my license code for the 2022 turbo tax program, but I'm unable to locate that same information for 2023.  Can you help me locate my 2023 license code and help me reload the 2023 turbo tax program?

If you used desktop software downloaded/installed from a CD to your own computer, then the tax files are stored locally on your own hard drive or any backup device you used like a flash drive.  They are not stored online.  If you cannot recover them due to a hard drive failure, etc. you can get a free transcript from the IRS or for a fee of $30 an actual copy of your tax return.

  1. Go to Access my downloads and sign in with the same user ID you used to purchase your software
  2. On Your TurboTax account, select the Downloads tab
  3. Select the version you want to download and save it somewhere on your computer where you can find it
    • If you need help finding your download, we have instructions for Windows and Mac
  1. Install your software by double-clicking the downloaded file
    • If you need help installing, we have instructions for Windows and Mac
