Not able to verify my identity with IRS

To activate my account for identify verfication in IRS, the website/IRS has sent me an activation code via mail as they could not verify my phone number. I have received mail but I could not find an 8-digit activation code in that mail.

Can you please help as I have been working on this for the past 2 months?

Initial issues: could not verify credit card/phone number, sent activation code twice via mail

If you know you need an IP PIN to file your taxes and you lost your CP01A letter (or never received it), you can:

  • Retrieve your IP PIN online at the IRS's Get an IP PIN site; or
  • Call the IRS at 1-800-908-4490 to have your IP PIN mailed to you (this can take up to 21 days)

We're unable to issue IP PINs and you won't find them on your tax paperwork. You can only get IP PINs from the IRS.

Hello,

I have received the 5071C form and not able to verify my identity for the taxes filed last year because of the issue mentioned above.

To opt-in for IP PIN tool, I need to have an account on IRS.gov and need to validate my identity at the first place which I am not able to do.

Only the IRS can resolve this issue. If you are unable to resolve it by contacting the IRS you can contact a Taxpayer Advocate in your area. See this IRS website for Taxpayer Advocate in your area and a toll free number: http://www.irs.gov/Advocate/Local-Taxpayer-Advocate
