My taxes were sent to my bank for direct deposit but they aren't there yet, is something wrong with my taxes? All the banking information is correct.

The bank tells me that if it's direct deposit than it would be in the account already and said it must not have been sent over, when it was.

The IRS says to allow up to 5 days due to variations in bank processing times/procedures.

However...did you have any TurboTax Fees that you chose to pay out of your Federal refund?   If so, your funds go first from the IRS to an intermediary bank where the fees are subtracted.  If you used that service, we can give you more details, and how to log into the intermediary company to check on the funds.

I did not choose to pay anything out of my refund. The bank says they don't even have the information or anything that was sent over to them a few days ago.

Does this IRS website tool say the IRS has released the funds?

Is it a regular personal bank account as opposed to a brokerage account, etc.?

Regular personal bank account, I use it all the time for basically everything

You'll have to check with the IRS if it's been over 5 days.  I left a shortcut below.

If you did not pay any fees out of your Federal refund, then the only two parties involved are the IRS and your bank.

Did you print out your return and look at the routing and account numbers to be sure they are correct?

You can phone the IRS, and they should be able to tell you to what bank they sent the funds.

IRS:  800-829-1040  hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Mon-Fri

Listen to each menu before making the selection.

First choose your language. Press 1 for English.

  • Then do not choose the first choice re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
  • Instead, press 2 for "personal income tax".
  • Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
  • Then press 3 "for all other questions."
  • Then press 2 "for all other questions."  It should then transfer you to an agent, but there is likely to be a long wait.

I usually use a speakerphone so I can work on something else while waiting.

I will have to try calling again later, I just tried calling now and didn't get anywhere. Just automated options and ended up at the dead end with no person to talk too.

It can take up to 5 business days for your bank to deposit your tax return into your account. If the status in Where’s My Refund? shows “Refund Sent”, the IRS has sent your tax refund to your bank for direct deposit. If you don't receive it in after 5 business days, then you should contact your bank.

The irs website said it was approved and sent to my bank account, and it’s been 5 business days and my bank said they don’t see anything… what do I do?

If the status in Where's My Refund? shows "Refund Sent," the IRS has sent your tax refund to your bank for direct deposit. If you don't receive it after 5 business days, then you should contact your bank, which you have already done. If it has not been received after the 5th business day, then you would need to contact the IRS directly.
