If the information you provided is for a closed or invalid account, the government will issue you a refund check via mail. If your return hasn't already posted to the IRS's system, you can ask them to stop the direct deposit. You may call them toll-free at 800-829-1040, Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.

However, if your return gets rejected you can update this information by completing the following steps:

  • Sign in to TurboTax account
  • Click on Take me to my return button
  • Click on the File tab and go through the screens, to update your direct deposit information.

Please see FAQ (click on see entire answer), for more information if you entered the wrong bank account info: https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/3302459

If accepted, it is too late to update your bank account information in the program. If the bank rejects your refund because it is an incorrect account, the IRS will issue a check and mail it to the address shown on your tax return. Or, if the return hasn't already posted to the IRS's system, you can ask them to stop the direct deposit. You may call them toll-free at 800-829-1040, M - F, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
