My refund is $3000 less and comes from "TPG PRODUCTS SBTPG LLC”

The amount deposited into my account is $3000 less than my what my approved federal return was and I don’t owe any offsets, I didn’t get the monthly child payments or anything so there was no reason for this to be taken out of my return. I’ve seen many others post the same issue, is this automatically being fixed or do we need to file some sort of claim or anything?

If your refund is less than you expected by a large amount, then it is likely that the IRS has corrected your return for errors they have found on your return. No information about the corrections is given to anyone at TurboTax by the IRS.

In the next few weeks, the IRS will send a notice explaining the changes they have made on your return.

If you agree, then no further action is needed.

If you do not agree with the changes, the notice will explain what you need to do to appeal the IRS decision.

Please also read this IRS FAQ for more information.

I don’t agree with that answer since there are so many other people saying the exact same thing, both on here and other social media, and it also being $3000 for a lot of the people who had a big enough refund for that amount to come out of. That can’t be just a coincidence. I’ve use TurboTax for years and have never had this issue until you used tpg to deposit the funds and there have been class action suits filed against them before. I know the president of turbo tax has been made aware of the issue as some who have contacted him already have gotten theirs fixed. Is this the next step I need to take, contacting higher up?

@Atackett

Did you check what the IRS sent before posting ?   If not do so now ...  https://www.irs.gov/refunds  Did they send less than expected ?    And your federal & state refunds do not arrive together ... is that the missing amount?

I saw what they posted, I also know this is a known issue that tpg is shorting people by thousands when the irs didn’t take any extra out. And no it’s not that my federal and state didn’t arrive together,I owed (and already paid) $17 for state, and that’s about how much I pay every year for it. My federal was supposed to be $7547 and I got back $4641...a $2900 difference

Then if you did not get an advance you will need to either wait for the processing bank to work this out or you can try contacting them.

The issue is not really with TPG, they simply disburse what the IRS sends them after they deduct the fees for TurboTax ONLY when someone chose to have their fees paid through their refund.  Also, it is not a calculation issue.  It is more of an issue with taxpayers entries and/or records not matching what the IRS has on file.

With the numbers you posted, I would guess that you entered that you did not receive any stimulus payment and were married filing a joint return which would have been a $2,800 payment. If you entered $0 received, your line 30 of your 1040 would show $2,800 which would be incorrect.  You should have entered $2,800 and should see $0 on line 30.

Then you had fees of $106. In this situation, the IRS would have sent $4,747 to TPG who would have then taken out the $106 fee.

You will likely be getting a letter from the IRS explaining the adjustment to your refund.  You can try calling them at 800-829-1040, however, be aware, the hold times are quite long.

I filed single but no I did not get my 3rd stimulus. And I have a problem believing it isn’t an issue with tpg when it’s a known issue that they take out extra fees that weren’t supposed to be taken out.

I understand your concern with TPG but they are not new to TurboTax they changed their name from Santa Barbara Bank.  Listen,  not all is lost at this point.  You will have the opportunity to address the difference and resolve the case.  IRS will contact you in a few weeks to explain the adjustments and offer you the opportunity to address them.

Every penny will be accounted for by the time you resolve this issue.  I promise you will understand.   You may not agree but you will understand.

I had the same issue. IRS says my “accepted” amount from my tax transcript is 4,580. It then says they sent me 4,580 on 02/08. Tpg sent me 2,200. I’ll be contacting my lawyer if the bank doesn’t tell me it is a processing issue on your end. Seems like TPg is on bull**bleep** and Turbo tax should get a new third party. This is not some error or deduction. It is either a normal delay or a **bleep** up. Ridiculous. I’ll never be using Turbo Tax again after this gets resolved. And I hope they don’t do I can sue the **bleep** out of them. A tort lawyer will take this case on contingency and turn it into a class action and burry Turbo Tax.

Before you contact your attorneys, you may wish to find out if anything was applied to a past due debt. Please select this link for more details.

If this isn't the case, contact Santa Barbara TPG here to find out why the refund amount is so much lower than you anticipated.

Even if the IRS had no offsets and sent the entire anticipated refund  it could have been taken to pay off another debt that the bank is collecting for... so contact them to see what is happening with your specific situation.

Just an FYI ... not that I am accusing anyone ...  but having worked with these processing banks in the past (and there really are only a couple of them in this refund processing business) I found out that in the fine print of the contract you agreed to and signed you gave them the ability to take the IRS refund to satisfy certain other debts.  I found the most likely culprit is the loan advances you may have gotten with a different tax company  but then filed your return with TT for whatever reason.  If you did not file with the same company that you got the advance from then they cannot automatically collect the repayment when you filed  so these processing banks have a list  and they each collect for each other.  The banks can also divert funds to other bank debts like CC or mortages  and even for court fees or state offsets.

There could be many reasons for the amount of the deposit to be less.  Critter-3 indicated one reason which is a delinquency of a debt.  There is also the delayed refund release for certain credits which could be your situation.

Those delinquent debts would be one of the following:

  • Student loans, VA loans, federally sponsored loans, federal or state tax debt, child support, alimony to name most of them.

If you claimed the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or the Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC), you can expect to get your refund by February 28 if:

I also received my refund through Tpg Products Sbtpg LLC

and almost $3,000 short. Never received a letter or anything stating they would take anything

No this is some total BS!! .. you have numerous people saying the same thing that has happened... And yes I am now another person who is pissed off because I was supposed to get more then deposited... Not only that but I have used turbo tax year after year, never have had this problem... I owed before and this is not how it was dealt with... I had to pay the year after and when the IRS approves the refund amount on their site and gives you a deposit date..that is what is going to be sent by them. If you owe something or if you made a mistake they have usually been known to catch up to you next year because once the refund amount is approved they have already checked it over for issues and if there is any that they pick up and change it will show you your approved amount when the date is set for deposit, or it will reject your return..there is a reason they do that and this is why... I hope this gets fixed because this is a TOTAL crock that shouldn't be allowed to go unchecked.. I paid for my STATE taxes out of my STATE RETURN..my federal was FREE . And even then I sure as hell didn't pay a few hundred for service and I also agreed with Turbo tax before submitting to how much the order was and what I agreed to pay and then any advance I got was included in these itemized charges....i got an advance too but am still short after having deducted that.. my state was done with the same service they turbo tax and did not say some weird ass LLC in the deposit info and never has before... It has always stated it comes from the IRS regardless of how I had done my taxes... Again... Used this same exact account thru turbo tax prior years and this is different from anything I've experienced before... There is something really wrong here and I am probably one of the unfortunate ones that won't ever get this money back because I don't have the resources to fight back but there are SO MANY RED FLAGS HERE!! This sucks! Especially for someone who was REALLY counting on that money... May it be only a few hundred bucks difference but that is a LOT right now and I bet there will be more like me who feel totally screwed by this... Thanks 👍 super great of you and I am predicting Turbo Tax to take a hit for this too... Maybe they should make it right because it's clearly not "the IRS deduction, or charges for service [Profanity Removed] that seems to be the answer were supposed to just go along with. So far it is 1:40am and already just since midnight it has already become a topic online.

I’m dealing with the same thing, IRS said they sent the full amount and they took 3000 dollars out of my refund. This is my last time using turbo tax. I am out of work and needed all my money and got ripped off this is some bull. Stop using that janky bank if they are stealing from customers. This is ridiculous and I’m getting my lawyer cause I don’t owe any debts. And if I did, I should have received a letter stating so. Never received anything about a **bleep** 3000 debt. I want my money and I want it NOW!

Exact same issue. IRS website and customer service both stated the amount I was refunded. I received $4k less from TPG. The fees I owed turbo tax were roughly 300....

Exact same issue. No prior taxes owed. No "other debts" as the experts keep parroting.

I was told that I should expect 10,100. I received 7,100. Exactly the same amount as everyone here has claimed it seems.

The difference indicates that the IRS made an adjustment to your return, since you've already determined that you're not subject to any refund offsets.  The IRS will send a letter that explains the reason for the difference which usually arrives within about 2 weeks of the refund deposit.

That's not true ... Cause you don't owe them money. When you go on Santa Barbara Green Dot put in your SS and amount... Etc.. when it tells you your refund scroll down and it will tell you the FEES THAT THERE CHARGING YOU so we're being charged basically twice

@SusanY1  if that is true why does the IRS in their website indicate I should be receiving the full amount? Also how does that explain everyone with the exact same issue?

Yes this just happened to me a day ago and I will file a lawsuit against TPG Products if my full refund has not been deposited. They took out 3300 which is half of the refund I suppose to have received. I’m On the phone now with turbo tax to have this matter resolved

@Qdrake79

Is the amount sent/issued by the IRS the same as the refund amount shown on your federal tax return Form 1040 Line 35a? - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
