Is the cash advance for the Turbo Tax card based on credit score or just how much your refund is?

If you're owed a federal refund, you could be eligible for up to a $1,000 cash advance if approved. It is not based on credit score. You may have the opportunity to select the cash advance at the time you choose your refund method. https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cash-advance/1578

You will not be eligible for the offer if:

  •  Your physical address is: located outside of the United States or is in a U.S. territory, a PO box or located in a prison.
  •     Your physical address or the tax returns you are filing are for one of the following states or the District of Columbia: AL, AK, AR, CO, CT, DE, HI, IA, ID, IL, LA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OK, OR, PA, RI, SD, TN, TX, VA, VT, WA, WI and WY.
  •     You are less than 18 years old.
  •     The tax return is on behalf of a deceased person.
  •     You are filing Forms 1310, 1040SS, 1040PR, 1040X, 8888, or 8862.
  •     Your expected refund amount is less than $1,000.
  •     You are using any of our tax products where a professional is completing your taxes.
  •     You also must be approved by Green Dot to receive a Turbo? Prepaid Visa® Card.

REFUND ADVANCE

Last year for 2018 returns, certain qualified users were offered refund advance amounts on prepaid Visas at the time of e-filing, predicated on the amount of the refund and their returns being accepted by the IRS.  But it had to be offered--there was no way to opt in by request. If they offer a similar program for 2019 returns, do not expect to see it until January.  Since a return cannot be e-filed and accepted until the end of January, you could not receive a loan until early February at best.

  • It seems as though it is almost a scam...from turbo tax or green dot paying them to get all your info for their card.
  • Only a few states can you get an advance. Crazy!

No. The Refund Advance is not based on your credit score. Refund Advance is a loan based upon your anticipated refund and is not the refund itself. You can use the link provided below for more information on the Refund Advance:

Not sure where the other answer got their facts ... here is the 2019 restrictions which only disallows 3 states.

And the loans are only issued up to 2/7/2020 so they are gone for this tax season.
