My return was subject to tax on social security and turbo tax listed it as zero thereby understating my income by$35000 . How stupid. I will have to think hard about using TurboTax next year if I don’t get a refund of this years fee.
Here is a link: How do I request a refund for my TurboTax product?
File a claim under the 100% accuracy guarantee. If the investigation shows that TurboTax caused the error, then any late fees or penalties will be reimbursed.
It would be helpful to determine why the income was not listed as taxable. Can you clarify better the circumstances that led you to the conclusion that it was TurboTax's fault?
The reason it is TurboTax fault is easy to see. Look at line 6 on the return and the taxable as income is shown as zero, but the IRS says that my taxable income meets the minimum for 85 % of SxS to be taxable.
There is a question in the Social Security section that asks if your spouse received the Social Security payments while living abroad.
If you lived in one of the listed countries, the social security would be taxed by that other country and show as zero on your 1040 line 6b.
Please look at your social security worksheet to see how that was answered.
