If IRS sent me a notice that it could not locate the account they were to be paid from. Why? How do I review the account information?

Lets make sure that notice isn't a scam first. What is the form number? It's in the upper right and starts with either "CP" or "LTR" followed by 2 to 6 digits.

Per the IRS : "If a payment is returned by your financial institution (e.g., due to insufficient funds, incorrect account information, closed account, etc.) the IRS will mail a Letter 4870 to the address we have on file for you, explaining why the payment could not be processed, and providing alternate payment options."

You will need to pay your balance due to the IRS with a check or money order or you can pay directly through the IRS Website here: https://www.irs.gov/payments.  Be sure to make your payment by 4/15/19.

Check to see if you put in the wrong DD info ... if you did mess up the IRS or State  will be sending you a bill shortly ... follow the notice instructions to pay the debt.

How do I review the method I chose to pay my federal income tax with, after filing with TurboTax Online?

You can verify the tax payment method you chose on the Electronic Filing Instructions for your 2018 Federal Tax Return page, next to Balance Due/Refund. To see the page, follow these instructions:

1.     Open your return if it’s not already open.

2.     On the [Your name], your 2018 federal return was accepted! screen, scroll down and select Add a State (don’t worry, we’re not adding a state) to access your tax forms and worksheets.

3.     On the left side select Tax Tools then Print Center.

4.     On the TurboTax Print Center screen, select Print, save or preview this year’s return.

5.     On the next TurboTax Print Center screen, select 2018 federal returns and Include government and TurboTax worksheets (optional) then select View or print forms.

6.     The information will be on the first page, Electronic Filing Instructions for your 2018 Federal or State Tax Return next to Balance Due/Refund.

The information provided TurboTax for the account was correct.  The IRS couldn't locate the account.  Why?  This has happened before with Turbo Tax.
Thanks,

Could be that your banking institution rejected it. This occurs most commonly for those with LifeLock.

Did you ask your bank what the correct debit routing and account numbers are needed since they are not always the same numbers as printed on the checks.  Did they tell you why they denied the debit ?

In the future I would skip the debit thru the TT program ... choose to mail a check then you can skip the check and pay online directly at the IRS website ... try it now and see if they will take the numbers you used. <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://www.irs.gov/payments">https://www.irs.gov/payments</a>

What bank?  Some banks (like Bank of America) use different routing numbers for deposits and payments and not the regular numbers on the bottom of your checks.
