I’ve completed my tax return but now believe it needs to be amended. How do I get expert help?

If you have not filed the tax return, then you do not amend the return.  Amending a tax return can only be accomplished after the original tax return has been filed and accepted by the IRS or State.

 

If you have something that needs to be changed, just go to the section of the TurboTax program where the change needs to be made.

Hi DoninGA, I need to change my filing status from single to married filing jointly (I think), and require expert help with this. I checked the link you sent, but was unable to find a solution for my situation. What other suggestions do you have?

@conwaylloyd1 You can change your filing status in the My Info section of the online tax return.  You will need to edit your personal information and change your status to Married from Single.  To file a joint tax return with your spouse, you need to indicate that you will be filing the tax return with your spouse.

 

If you have completed but not filed the 2024 return, then you can access your 2024 online tax return again.

 

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

 

When you sign onto your online account and land on the Tax Home web page, scroll down and click on Add a state. 

This will take you back to the 2024 online tax return.

You indicated that the tax return has been completed.  If it is completed the Live Tax Advise link on the upper right of the online program screen will not be available.

You will need to contact TurboTax support for assistance

I have just finished my phone call with a tax specialist through the support hotline, they advised me I do not need to amend my return in my situation. I greatly appreciate your help and quick responses DoninGA.
