have you opened your 2023 return to check the filing status? If you e-filed, it should say accepted which means the IRS should have gotten it. if it says started you never successfully e-filed. It will also say started if you mailed in your return because in that case there is no knowing if the IRS got it or not. your second course of action is to check the IRS where's my refund page

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

it will show 1 of 3 things if the IRS got your return

Return Received – We received your return and are processing it. You would have to call the IRS to find out why the delay but has it been over 3 weeks?
Refund Approved – We approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown.
Refund Sent – We sent the refund to your bank or to you in the mail. ..

if you haven't received it and it's more than a week since the sent date, you'll need to contact the IRS

note that Turbotax never receives an update on the filing status.

Call 800-829-1040

  • Choose your language,
  • Then choose option 2
  • Then 1
  • Then 3
  • Then 2
  • When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN do nothing – wait - - After it asks twice, you will get another menu
  • Then 2
  • Then 3

It should then transfer you to an agent. Note when its phone lines are busy you may be on hold for a long while or disconnected

Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities.  There is no rule as to which one will come in first or how long it will be between their arrival in your account.

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2023 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

To track your state refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.
