I should've said yes on "someone else can claim me as a dependent on their tax return"

Hello,

Both my parent and I did tax return for 2020. My parent added me as a dependent under their name but when I did the tax return separately I said no on "someone else can claim me as a dependent on their tax return". I used free turbotax edition cuz I make very little money and my parent paid for turbotax. My parent's tax return was rejected because of my mistake. I want to amend my mistake but I can't amend my tax return online. How can I fix that?

Just so you know, even if you amend your tax return, your parents won't be able to e-file their return. They'll have to mail it in.

If you recently e-filed your return, you can't amend a tax return that was just accepted.   You'll have to wait for it to be processed by the IRS.  Trying to send in an amended return while they are still processing the original return could confuse things and delay your return for months.

Generally, Form 1040-X,  Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, must be filed within three years of the date the original return was filed, or within two years of the date the tax was paid, whichever is later.

Your parents need to print, ink sign and mail in the return now ... waiting for your amendment is not needed.

Do my parents need to fix anything or just send whatever they have in the first place?

They should mail in the return that was rejected with you on it ... no changes are needed.

I couldn't find the part where I can fix my mistake? What can I do to get done for both my parents' tax return and mine?
