I received an updated 1099-DIV from my broker after i printed my returns. I have not filed yet and need to change the 1099-DIV amounts. how?

The only option TurboTax gives me is to amend my returns.  I didn't file yet, I just printed the retuns.

Please clarify the situation.  Can you get back into your tax return by simply signing in?  When does it say you have to amend the return?

I was able to log back into Turbo Tax but it thinks i filed my taxes.  The only option it gives me is to amend my filing.

If you are only seeing the option to Amend your return, then yes, you submitted your return.  This means you would have walked all the way through to the screens that had you decide how you wanted to receive your refund or pay or taxes, and a few screens later you would have saw a screen that said, transmit your return, then you would have been told your returns were being transmitted, congratulations.

After that you would have received a message saying your return was either accepted or rejected.  Since you are logging in and seeing the option to Amend Your Return your return would have been accepted.  This means you will need to amend in order to make changes and update the 1099-DIV.

@dennis8135

TurboTax has marked your return finished.

To resume working on a finished tax return, use the bizarre command trick, "Add a State".

Silly but that's how TurboTax does it.

@fanfare is correct.

  1. When you get to the login page scan down and select "ADD A STATE"
  2. You're not really going to do that, as stated above it's a bizarre command trick.
  3. This will bring you back into the return.
  4. It may still prompt you to amend and DO NOT DO THAT
  5. Get back to the income section and make your changes
  6. Finally, continue to FILE and re-print the return.
