I rec'd an amended SSA1099 for 2019 for over payment of benefits, which I paid before tax deadline 2020. Can I still apply it to 2019 taxes or do I have to amend.

It depends. If your return has already been accepted by the IRS, then you should file an amended return to report the amended form. If your return has not been accepted by the IRS them you should edit the previously entered Form SSA-1099. In this case, follow the directions below to edit your Form 1099-SSA:

  1. Open (continue) your return in TurboTax if it's not already open.
  2. In TurboTax, search for the term social security benefits and then select the Jump to link at the top of your search results.

  3. On the next screen, click Edit beside the SSA-1099 Form you need to correct.

Note: If you prepared your return using Turbotax CD/Download software, then you should follow the amendment directions in this TurboTax FAQ instead of the one above. You should also wait until your original return has been completely processed to prepare and mail your amended return.
