I need to amend a box on my KS state return for 2024, 2023, 2022. Line 13 was left blank not giving me appropriate credits since I earn in KS but do not live there.

If you want to make changes or add a document to a tax return that has already been filed and accepted by the taxing agency, you should follow these guidelines.

  • You must first wait until the initial return is completely processed.
  • You will have to use the same TurboTax account that you used for the original tax return.
  • Once you begin your amendment, you'll see your original return.
  • The refund calculator will start new at $0 and only reflect the changes in the refund or tax due
  • Only make changes to the areas of your return that need to be corrected.
  • You have three years from the date you filed your return or two years after you paid the tax due (whichever is later) to file an amendment

Select your product below and follow the instructions.

@brian-dodrill

That credit only applies to you if you were a KS resident  (or part-year KS resident during the year in question) and your non-resident state taxed you on your KS-Resident income.....BUT you indicated you were not a KS resident.

Since you were a KS non-resident, KS gets to tax just your on-site KS job income (plus income from any rental properties or farms you might own that are located in KS), and your only significant credit would thus be the KS withholding on your KS job W-2 forms.

BUT...you should be able to take a credit for taxes assessed by KS, on your own resident state's tax return.  That is where you get the credit.   You do have to prepare your KS non-resident tax return first.
