I missed the deadline to send a contractor a 1099, but I still need to do it. I've already filed my tax return. Can I still do this? I have a Self-employed plan.

Yes, you can and should send the 1099. You will be late and there will probably be a penalty.

Yes, you can file the 1099-NEC through TurboTax. These forms were due on January 31, 2022. If a business fails to issue a form by the 1099-NEC or 1099-MISC deadline, the penalty varies from $50 to $270 per form, depending on how long past the deadline the business issues the form. There is a $556,500 maximum in fines per year. If a business intentionally disregards the requirement to provide a correct payee statement, it's subject to a minimum penalty of $550 per form or 10% of the income reported on the form, with no maximum.

If you're a business owner, you may need to create W-2 and 1099 forms (including 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC) for your employees or contractors. You'll need to use TurboTax Self-Employed, TurboTax Self-Employed Live, TurboTax Home & Business for Windows, or TurboTax Business.

Good to know, thanks! I tried going through the instructions for Self-Employed, and I can't for the life of me find the "my account" or "your account" button. Logging into the quick employer forms sends me in a loop.

In TurboTax Self-Employed, click on Tax Home (left side menu), then scroll down to Your Account.  Expand it and you will see Create 1099s and W-2s.    This will get you to Quick Employer Forms without error.   See image.

I literally don't have that option, I've attached an image. Although do note that I've already filed my tax return. Trying to amend it doesn't change anything.

sending a 1099-NEC can be done manually .

you mail a copy to the contractor and a copy to the IRS !

you will have one unhappy contractor.

You have to scroll up.    Your Account is above Your tax returns and documents.    You may need to click on Amend since you have already filed, but the link should still be there.     Do you not see Your Account anywhere?

That option isn't present, even after starting the amend process.

Try going directly to Quick Employer Forms.
